Doreen was my Godmother and played an active role in my life. Whilst my family moved away to Australia, Doreen, together with Norman, reminded me they were always there for me by sending a Birthday and Christmas card every single year. I am 62 now so that is a lot of love.

As far as stories go I am reminded of a great adventure we had for three weeks travelling around Scotland. I must have been 10 and Ian slightly younger. As small boys, we tested Norman’s patience once too often and as we entered a large roundabout Norman said we are heading home. A negotiation commenced with two small boys promising to behave, and I remember Doreen playing a key role in smoothing out “negotiations”. I am not sure how many times we circled that roundabout but it felt like several.

When I think of Doreen I feel a great sense of warmth.
